A few years back there was lots of talk that future operating systems would be in 3d. You would be able to view objects on your desktop in 3 dimensions and move them around in a 3d environment. While Microsoft and Apple are now starting to tap the capabilities of today’s modern graphics cards, the windowing environments have a long way to go before they provide us with an immersive desktop.
